Chevy V8.... Help PLEASE!!!! (I am still a ford guy)

well, my tire size is stock right now, but I plan on 33's (yea the truck is 2wd), and as for perfomance mods, I wont be doing any right now but when I can the first one will be a cam that performs well within 600-4000 or so rpms (it will be a torque mosnter more than any thing).

well before i make anymore comments as to where to go with this truck, what is going to be your primary use for it?

daily driver, offroad, mixture of both?

we need a little more info before we make anymore comments.

by the way bullitproofranger, i play a fender strat myself with 10 gauge strings. :headbang:

Well black widow, it will eventually be a mixture of both and undergo a 4wd sas conversion(but not right away). There is a guy down the road from me who has a 3/4 chevy that has been sitting for years, and I thought about asking the guy about the axles on it. And my fender(fender squier) strat is black w/ rosewood on maple neck with I believe 10 1/2- 11 gauge strings, nice to know of some other players on here (Im still learning). Oh and by the way, I have read a bit of your thread and although I am more of an off road truck guy, I really like your truck.

thanks.

i would do the th350 for now, then look for a th700r4. the 3;73 will be fine for now. in my 62 impala, i run a 320 horse 350 with a turbo 350, and im not sure on the rear gears, but i cruise 65-70 at about 3,000 rpm. i assume i have 3.55's. i havent looked though.

run whatcha got, you can always change it later.

Also keep in mind that for every inch of tire size(diameter) you add it changes the gear .10 So if you have lets say 3.73 and add tires 3 inches taller than stock it would be the same as 3.43 gear in the rear. That would still be fine with a 350 and TH350 especially in a "light" truck since you say you want a cam that makes low end power.

well heres how it works, the bigger the tire, the taller it makes your gear ratio, and the smaller the tire, the lower the ratio.

putting smaller tires on a 3.45 rear would be the same as switching to say a 3.55 rear.

putting bigger tires on a 3.73 rear would be the same as switching to say a 3.50 rear.

something I forgot about, a tranny shifter, do you think it would be hard to build one? I was looking at some b&m shifters from jegs, but their price is a little expensive right now.

by the way black widow I dont know if you are a fan of SRV, but here is a great vid of him playing voodoo chile http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_g_O1mpV8I&feature=related

for a shifter, i would run something like this.

http://www.jegs.com/p/B-M/B-M-Unimatic-Shifter/745769/10002/-1

also check ebay for used shifters. maybe able to get something cheap.

and i love srv, heres my favortie video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tWLw7nozO_U

ive bought his greatest hits album so many times. because ive played them so much they dont play anymore.

im getting pretty close to sounding like him. i just need a better amp and a tube screamer.

All right I'll check out ebay. I'll try to search on how to make one, but if that don't work I'll try to get that one you suggested, I have a jegs catalog, and I have considered it, I just want to look at making one(possibly). As for SRV, he is my favorite, and that Texas Flood vid (at El Mocambo I think) is another one I like, seems like not that many people have heard of him these days.

well, im only 18, but i grew up with all the classic rock.

rush
stevie ray vaughan
joe satriani
aerosmith
fleetwood mac
eric clapton

all those groups, and people, are on every single album in my car or truck.

funny, i blew the engine in my ranger while having eric clapton's no alibis cranking. lol

but back to topic. yeah, this shifter would work with the 350, but not the 700r4, but if you didnt care about not being able do down shift manually to first, it would work

http://www.jegs.com/i/Spectre/865/6423/10002/-1?parentProductId=1026988

this one is pretty cheap. but you would have to but a shift boot seperatly

that shifter is perfect, as for being able to shift into first gear, I shouldn't need to right off the bat. and I might be able to adapt my manual trannys boot onto it (thats what ducktape is for right!!!) and about growing up with classic rock, I am going on 17 and I listen to clapton, acdc, srv, jimi hendrix, and even the beatles.

black widow what did you do as far as accessory belts (alt., water pump, power steering, ect.)? Oh, and I think I found a 700 tranny for $50.

not that far yet, but the stock p.s pump can be adapted to the stock ranger box.

water pump, im running a stock replacement.

alternator is a chrome 1 wire from jegs.

sweet deal on the trans, where at did you find it.

do you mean the stock chevy ps pump? because the chevy 350 (haven't got it yet) is just sitting right now, and I don't know if it has a ps pump on it. and about the transmission, I found it on a local thing here thats like craigslist. and get this, on that transmission ad, the guy says he also has chevy TH350 that is free, just needs rebuilt.
