my brothers aveo has two problems that i know of its an 04 auto with 112,xxx

1.)When he makes hard right turns(only right, and usually at speed) it makes a low scraping noise (i think more like a dry pump) at a fairly slow pulsing.

second problem
2.)when he hits the brakes the car feels like its pulsing and the steering wheel shudders. (he also thinks the brakes might need replacing)

Any clue what is causing these

I think

1. power steering pump is going bad

2. ABS problem, or either uneven brake wear

although i am in no way an expert

any help would be appreciated

I would lift the front and check the bearings for play.

on jackstands or ramps, and i dont know how to check but if someone tells me i will. and what do the bearings look like
sorry i dont know that much about cars YET but im learning

Check them on stands. Lift the wheels off the ground and check for movement in the assembly. Grab the top and bottom, and try to rock the wheel. Do the same while grabbing the front and back off the wheel. If you get movement on both, the bearing is almost certainly bad. Check rockauto.com for pictures of the bearing.

i put money that you warped the front rotors so that would be your pulsating brake pedal. as for the scrappong sound, check the wheel breaings as everyone says. Yours are a sealed bearing so if they are bad you will have to buy the whole hub assembly

My brothers makes a noise like you're first symptom... supposedly. I've ridden with him several times in it, apparently it's intermittent, and never when I'm in the car of course. Which sucks because I'm the mechanic of the family.

ok it doesn't appear to be either wheel bearings or warped rotors(even though im not sure about the rotors, can you just eyeball them?)

you can not jsut eyeball the rotors. the only way to check is you use a dial indicator on the mating surface where the pads ride and turn the rotors my hand (making sure you put a lug all the way up against the rotor to hold it flat and straight).
