I was wondering if cherry bomb glass packs can damage the engine or anything for that matter on my ranger? sensors, mileage, anything? Ive heard it can improve mileage in some cases?? Either way, what is the BEST muffler you can get for what i would like? I would like a beefy sound but consistent sound(not sound like crap). Ive heard a lot of good things about the 40 series, Thrush, and Cherry bombs.

And if anyone approves of putting a cherrybomb glass pack(or any other muffler) on a ranger, what is the correct size? I have a '98 XLT super cab with a 3L v6.

-Thanks

my 2 cents

iv got one on my 84 Bronco II with the 2.8 V6 an i like how it sounds. mines a 28" the sounds all depend on the length from what iv heard. as far as hurting it i wouldn't think it would. an i couldn't tell you bout an mileage gains being i put my foot in it alot. the glass pack VS flowmaster, ect. debate is pretty big but i say go for what you think suites you. the costs can vary too between them quite a bit as well. so as far as whats "best" you will have to compare them all and see witch fits you.

I've got the Cherry bomb Turbo Muffler on my 2.8 as well. I really like the sound it has for a small engine. I don't know about mileage, but a better or more free flowing exhaust will help but I don't think it will be a large difference.

I used a 31" Cherry Bomb and I like the sound. It's not loud and has a deep sound. I used a turn down right out of the muffler but with a tailpipe it would be a little quieter. I don't know how much it helped mpg or power because when I got my truck the exhaust was broke off right behind the cat conv. Years ago in Car Craft I think it was they did a test with like 10 different mufflers and the glasspacks let the motor make the most all out horsepower and torque. I agree with smokeater that the length of the glasspack makes the most difference in the sound. I would think a short one would make that blatty nasty buzzing sound the ricers seem to love,I hate that sound(noise)!

yeah the longer ones have that deeper more mellow tone to them. mine is pretty loud though but that could be from how its set up and that its shorter slightly then yours.

I found with a glass-pack I did not have enough back pressure for the motor to scavenge properly, leaving me with a flat spot about 3-4000 RPMs right were the 3L is starting to make power. After swapping in a Thrush chambered muffler, I have a nice low sound, and enough back pressure that my flat spot as disappeared.

If you buy a cherry bomb glass pack what should the angle be for the muffler tips?

that depends completely on the space available and your personal taste.

i'll be needing a new muffler very, very soon and am seriously considering a glass pack. i had a pair of them years ago (high school) on my corvair convertible. sounded great on it. real chick magnet... yeah, right. :icon_rofl:

what about on a 4 banger 5spd flowmaster or glasspack and dual tails or singles? Use to have an 86 ranger with just a glasspack no tail pipe or turn down it sounded ok but wanting to stay away from the ricer sound:icon_welder:

just straight pipe it.
