My credo
the grey-t escape
was pricing a exhaust online @ autozone a cherrybomb glasspack is only $20 vs a stock replacement for 27. anyone ever run one? i had been considering headers, but cost and possibility of broken bolts in the head make me think i'll just go with a stock-replacement cat-back and be done with it. my 16 y/o exhaust is fine with the exception of the flange that joins the intermeadeate pipe to the converter is rusted away, ive litterly got black tarp straps "pulling" the muffler/pipe assy up against the cat flange. once in a while a strap will break and things get loud. so how's a glasspack sound? will i hate it? ive thought of getting a tractor muffler from t.s.c. ive done that before with a full-size, i just need to get measurements so i can go to t.s.c. with a tape and see what would work. usually a tractor muffler is way cheaper than a automotive replacement, but a 20 dollar glaspack may be tough to beat $-wise. evrything including gaskets for both sides of the converter is 86.95, wish they made flexpipe that withstood the "salt belt" a little better, id just completely build my own, along with a splitter and fake duals. but then id be doing it every year. thoughts? / comments?

depends, do you like loud? if so then its for you, if not i recommend oe replacement. another thing to consider, glasspacks are not mufflers and are illegal in most states because of this, so you may have problems getting inspection stickers if your state has them, and i can almost promise you you will not pass emissions either as a glasspack is basically a straight pipe w/ some inlets to let the air go into a narrow fiberglass packing. a honda fart tip actually has more packing than a glasspack, and they sound about the same to me on a v6, so take your pick. personally if i was after sound i would go w/ a flowmaster or magnaflow thats stainless so youll never have to worry about the muffler rotting again. but for the money id go oe for the above problems you probably want to live w/o.

no inspections, thats the least of my worries, i dont mind if its a little louder than stock, but for the most part id want it quiet. i had a fairmont once with no muffler, there was enough bends in the flexpipe i put on that it wasnt very loud at all (200 I-6) i was just looking at what summit had to offer, more mufflers but about the same cost as what i cold get locally. wish there were sound clips for a system build; i.e. pick your parts, motor application, trans installed and it would give you a "heads up" on what you could expect it to sound like. i know when my pipe comes apart at the cat its awful, most V8's aint bad to listen to with open pipes, but a V6 just doesnt sound good that way. not as bad as a 4 cyl but not by much. may just spend the extra 7 bucks for a stock replacement if theres no tractor muffler that will fit underneath for cheap. i had a oliver 1650 diesel muffler on a chevy 350 in a 3/4 ton chassis that was quiet, and only 16 bucks. was a 3" inlet/outlet though.

get a flowmaster 40 delta flow only alittle louder than stock and has a nice tone

Racsan, those glasspack mufflers will give you a loud raspy "ricer" sound. I found that a thrush tubro muffler will give off a more subtle note than a glasspack. I've heard many budget V6 exhausts using the turbo mufflers and they sound pretty good.

I still have stock cat's, and a cherrybomb dumped under the bed and it's not ricey at all in my opinion....granted I wouldn't run one on a smaller engine, but it sounds alright on a 4.0L. It's not overly loud, but does tend to drone at cruising rpm.

I'm thinking about putting a cherry bomb glasspack under the bed of my 93 4.0 V6.. anybody know what's the stock exhaust pipe size. I read around and pretty sure it 2" but just want to make sure .. thanks!

i still think you should look at the flowmaster 40 series delta flow one of my buddies has one on his 3.0 and it sounds good and is almost stock loudness

Thanks for the reply

Looking at the flowmaster right now and got the agree they do have nice stuff! :headbang:

There's a 24" long 2" glasspack on my expolorer with stock cats and stock tailpipe, it's not very loud, I'm not a fan of it at all, flowmaster 40s sound a lot better and are no more louder.

+1, that was my favorite system I had on my truck, just a turbo muffler.
