Checking for Codes

Can I check for codes using an analog multimeter, that only has DC voltage settings of; 2.5, 10, 50, 250, and 500. The tech library states 0-15 as the proper setting.

I would imagin that the 50v setting you would see little movements, but you wouldn't top/peg it out...if you did that circuit is over voltaged.
On the 10v setting...you'll run the risk to topping/pegging the meter on checks of over 10v.

depending on your size of the display would in dicate as to if you can pick up the smaller movements?

question would be how many are at 12v? or over 10v??

A double A battery moves the needle enough to see it while the meter is set at 50v. Does that sound like it will be good enough?

I'm affraid that you'll have to be the judge of that. a AA battery is what 1.5v?? and you're picking it up an the 50v setting.

I would look at what you supoose to be reading & how much variance there is for each of the checks that going to be done... if you fell that you can see the diffenerance well enough...go for it....the only way to know for sure is to try.
