okay, this is my second time writing this, since my internet cut out before i could post it the 1st time. Anyway heres gos, ill try to keep it no too long.
About me, im in the navy, currently stationed in san diego for school, my rate is ET (electronics tech) and ive been in about a year, i was born and raised in northern new jersey, and have lived there up until i joined.
My truck is going to be an 03 ranger xlt, automatic, 4x4, extended cab (i think all xlts came extended cab, correct me if im wrong im not sure) it has about 78,000. My father is giving me this truck. Im not spoiled, lol ill go into why im getting this truck instead of buying my own, ok here goes...
My mom drove a 2000 jeep cherokee, its getting old and highmileage (149,000, we went on vacation with it alot)...ford is the shit, and i have always loved them...but i have a soft spot for the cherokee, i do like them and they are very reliable, there great trucks (idk if unibody qualifies it as a "truck" though hahah) so moving on, she was going to trade that under the "cash for clunkers" bullshit program, but then she did research and found out that they both destroyed the car afterwards, and gave a TAXABLE 4,500 rebate. So she decided to go without trading it in, and pay the extra on the car payments (btw she got an 07 jeep patriot, its a good car, but i would never take it offroad. its a CAR not a truck) well i was originally going to get the jeep, but after some thought, they decided the truck would be better, since i transfer to florida next year, and we need to drive the truck from nj to florida. So too them it made more sense to give me the vehicle with less mileage, my dads ranger, since he will only be needing the jeep cherokee for work and back (like a 10 mile commute). They use the new jeep for everything else, they could stretch out the life of the jeep very long, since it wont be driven much.
So at the end of all that, im getting an 03 ranger from my father, trust me i offered to give them at least SOMETHING for the truck, its still pretty much new, and in great shape. They said joining the navy was enough and that i deserve it. Im not going to argue, though, i will do something to repay them one of these days. Just gotta think of what.
well thats my story, glad to be on a forum for my truck again, i used to go to BII.org when i had my bronco II two years ago. but that truck is long gone, it got junked when too many things broke, and i was lazy/broke to fix all the problems it had. I blame myself, i had a rediculous offroading thirst back then being that i just got my license...and it lasted longer then you would think given the red lining hell it was going through, i give that lil 2.9 credit...the motor wasnt even the reason it was junked. I plan on being alot more carefull with the ranger!!
:edit: i was checking out the site so more and came across the "saleen" ranger...i didnt feel like starting a new thread about it, but i was baffled when i saw the engine pic of a 2.9 under the hood?!?!? how could ford give a truck a "saleen" title with that engine in it? LOL. the 2.9 in my bronco II had trouble getting over 85, and the speedo in the ranger said 140. i dont think a 2.9 even in the lighter ranger would break 105. i was disappionted when i saw it, cuase i was expecting at the least a 5.0 in it. just my thoughts though, lol.
