I have 1994 Ranger with the 4.0 engine. I have been getting bad gas mileage and my AC controls have not been working the best....
Yesterday I checked under the hood and the plastic style vaacuum line to the black plastic oblong vaacuum resevoir (mounted above the evaporator, passenger side) was broke. That vaacuum line also draws on the thermostatic air cleaner that regulates the little "flapper" on the fresh air intake.
When the engine is cold the "flapper" is open to draw heated air off of the engine manifold, as the engine warms up the "flapper" is closed and the engine air is drawn from the colder outside air, not the manifold heated air.
This system is supposed to maintain the inlet air temperature between 70 to 105 deg. F.
I repaired that vaacuum line and now my AC controls work and the engine will draw in fresh colder outside air.....
