I have a 94 2.3 2wd with a 5 speed. Everytime i slow from about 45mph to like 25 the check engine light comes on. It comes on normally as the rpms drop through 1800 to 1500 and its only when the rpms are dropping relatively slow. It also seems to have a slight miss at 1850 to 1900 rpms. I have put plugs, wires, and coil packs on in the last 5000 miles. I was thinking maybe a crankshaft sensor(only ignition component i havnt touched).


Any advise would be appreciated

I was reading the code scanner book and read that some 91 and newr vehicles have 3 digit codes, it says look in your owners manual to see if this applies to yours. Problem is that I dont have an owners manual, does anyone know if a 94 ranger has 2 or 3 digit codes?

If it sends 3 digit codes then I am pretty sure it is code 335, says I have a bad PFV(pressure feedback valve). So I priced one, 140 bucks. I wasn't sure if I needed one for sure, so I wasn't about to spend that kind of money on a possible dead end. I went and picked up one at the junkyard just to see if made any difference at all. So far since I put it on I havn't had one CEL yet. I have no clue what condition the junkyard PFV is in so if I get a CEL in the future I will probaly look into a new one.

I am thinking the miss has nothing to do with the EGR system, so I am still thinking crankshaft sensor, but wouldn't it trip the CEL?

an improperly functioning EGR system can definitely cause a miss. i think your on the right track. the DPFE is also a high failure item...so i wouldnt be surprised if thats all the problem was.

a bad crank sensor will usually trip a CEL.
