Hello everyone;
I have a 1997 Ford Ranger,and the check engine light is on. I checked it out with my code reader and I get code #1443 Purge Control Solenoid , Vapor Management Valve Malfunction. Can someone tell me where or what to look for ?
Thanks for any help!

Resonse

I'm new here but i have a 96gt mustang that had the same problem,those two peices are sold for about 100 bucks together at Ford,might be cheaper for the ranger,but they control the vapor from your fuel tank back into the throttle body ,check for a vacuum hoses going into your throttle body or plenum follow all of them and their will be a small sensor called a thermistor and follow it further and the purge valve will be close to it.

Remove the positive battery cable from the battery. When you put it back on it should reset the computer and see if the light goes out the next time you start the car.

Remove the NEGATIVE battery cable. Either one will disable the electrical systems, but putting a steel wrench on a connected positive battery cable near grounded metal parts is a nice way to weld your wrench to the vehicle.

But that's a (blunt force) reset. It doesn't fix a damn thing. And you can usually reset the PCM with the code reader.

The FIRST thing to do with vapor complaints is make sure the fuel cap is tight and doesn't leak. Then reset it and if you still have a problem, go further.

A friend of mine (that's doesn't work on cars often) did that the other day, but somehow managed to do that between the battery terminals instead of the body. :rolleyes: No clue how he got it out, but apparently it got REALLY hot.
