Had a recent incident where I went out to start my truck(2001 Ranger 3.0 V-6 250000 give or take miles} and it was rough as hell. Check Engine Light of course. I drove it for a few days until I had the light checked out. My mechanic did a download and all the faults it brought up was liking a slot machine. The good mechanic that I had went right to the air cleaner. He found a piece of cellaphane from the air filter had wrapped around the air filter sensor. Once he removed that is was back to operating smooth as silk again. WHEW said my budget and only $20 for his time rather than megabucks I was dreading. Check the simplest things first.
BTW I am a retired aircraft mechanic who doesn't mess with tools anymore.
