Hi. Cool board ya'll have here. This also is my first Post. I live out in the Texas country and have been enjoying our little Ranger XLT since we bought it new in 03. It only has about 40,000 miles on her now as it's just used by my wife for her commuter car. and around the farm. BTW, It has the 2.3 liter motor with a five speed

Now the problem! And I hope I'm in the correct forum......If not please let me know where the proper place to post this.
OK...My wife was driving her Ranger on the highway and the Check engine light came on. Well her being several miles away from home and being in the city she went to Auto Zone as we have heard that they scan the computer for free. Well they scanned the truck to see why the light was on. The scan came back as a "stuck Fuel Rail Valve". I have no idea what this could be and where it's located. The truck has been running great and no notice of any problems then or even now a day later. Has any else experienced this before? I did disconnect the battery and cleared the code but it came back on after about 5-10 miles
Any one know where this little sensor might be and how to fix it?
Thanks in advance

WOW! I Hope I don't have everyone stumped on this one. :dntknw:
I was hoping I wouldn't have to take it to the dealer.......
FWIW, last night I cleared the code and it returned after driving about 5-10 miles. I "seemed" I did feel a bit of hesitation at one point though shifting it and then hitting the gas again. Is there anywhere else I might ask this question that knows these Ranger emission systems well?

It would help if you posted the actual code #, not some verbiage mangled by the "code reader" quasi-technician AP store clerk.

So, I scanned that list and found nothing like your code description, "stuck Fuel Rail Valve".

POST THE CODE #.

Welcome to The Ranger Station.

:agree:

Hi Earl, I agree with what you say about the person that did this test. I'm a retired tech but I retired before the now day fuel injection time. Now the reason my wife did this was she was at least 100 miles from here. So we had to do what we had to do. She did stop by the Ford house that was close and they said that they could scan it but would be 100.00 to do it. I would like to fix this my self. So I guess there no way around the 100.00 dollar charge I guess unless there is a way I can scan it and get the code.
But the funny thing was the service writer said there was such a valve. I just wonder if there calling a fuel rail valve a fuel pressure regulator..LOL

Thanks for the help and the welcome too

Smokey

Surely there is an AP store near you that will pull the code for free. Call around.

engine light on

Greetings, I hope you have found a solution for this problem, if not look on youtube and type in on search for ford ranger 2002 imrc. This stands for intake manifold runner control.
Good luck.

More than likely it is a dried/cracked vacuum hose. Be careful when you pull the vacuum hose off of the actuator. I broke the plastic piece that the hose slides onto. $175.00 later it was fixed.
