Now, before ya'll tell me to check the bulb, I already did, it is not the bulb. I switched it about 5 times and switched it around with other light bulbs from other dummy lights an nothing. This is a replacement cluster that came from a 95 Ranger. I should have no problems since I have switched before from another 95 and I had no problems.

At first, it worked, but it was very dim. After that, it didn't come on at all. Before I open it up to see what is wrong, can anyone tell me what it could be?

did you check the switch on the thermostat housing is a switch sensor pull the wire off single wire and turn the ignition on and touch the wire to ground if the light comes on it is the switch does the oil light come on until you start the motor. If the temp light shines when you ground the wire make sure you get the light sensor/switch and not the guage sensor. The one in the thermostat housing is probably for a guage and not a idiot light.

By the way with the light being dim it tells me your engine was not getting hot with the sensor the brighter the light the hotter the coolant. I was just asking about the oil light to see if the dash cluster is working otherwise you know blinkers dash lights ect the oil light has a normal closed switch and the water temp is normally open til the engine gets too hot then provides ground to the light.

Well, I found the problem. It was that electronic plastic in the back of the cluster that guides each wire to it's corresponding place behind the cluster.. It was pretty burned up and old with major cracks everywhere. I simply went to a JY, bought one with a broken clear plastic cover for 5 dollars and replaced the gauges along with the clear plastic cover. It now works. Hope this helps anyone for future reference. I should have taken pictures or at least a video. Thanks for the input anyway kimcrwbr1.
