hello,

I have a 1994 ford ranger xlt with the 4.0. I have recently been experiencing my check engine coming on and a momentary loss of power occuring. 90 percent of time the truck runs great. I am told there is a way to get the engine code by using a jumper wire across a connector. My problem is I have no idea where this connector is. Any help would be great. Thanks

ive been having the same problem in my 93 explorer. and explorin94 on here told me it is probably my o2 sensor.

Flashing CEL typically means clogged cat, the precat O2 sensors, or misifre. Best bet is a Ford scantool and check the misfire counts. If no misfires, use live data logging to see what the O2 sensors are reading at the time of the issue.

Well, nobody has really answered his question, he asked where the wire is. I am having the same issue, I found the plug, but I cant find the self test input wire to hook the jumper to.

get a scan tool they are cheap enough $20. add in a book and read it front to back. $20 and a few days bathroom material. check the vac lines especially around the egr sys. rangers love to eat them as well as the egr control valve $30. dont jump the gun till you get the scan tool and book. nothing worse than replacing something that works just fine.
until someone tells me otherwise there is no pin check for the ranger. that on the chevy s10.

btw its an obd 1 scan tool and the socket is under the hood.

i hear ppl say its the o2 sensor a lot, but you cant tell with out proper tests. if you let the o2 sensor go you might as well be pouring gas on the ground.
