So im wanting to paint my 97 due to the thing being 10 diffrent colors. But I don't wanna put 2000 bucks in to some show paint job.. So the outher day at tractor supply I seen they had some paint for like 50 a gallon i'm guessing this stuff is like rustolome.....So im prolly goin to be useing this. Just wanted to see your guys cheap ass paint jobs..

my buddy painted my truck for me with that valspar tractor paint last year. he buys it at tractor supply for about 40 or 45 bucks a gallon. usually he uses this paint because he flips old ford trucks, usually doubling his money so a good cheap paint job rly helps him sell his stuff. we used that tractor paint on so many trucks, and most of them i can't speak for, but i know that my truck still shines up good when waxed, and if i don't feel like waxing it, it looks like a flat red color, which i like better than shiny. this stuff is tough as nails, as leaving my parking lot, i literally have to drive through many tree branches, and i can't find a scratch in this paint anywhere. so i vote for that paint cuz its cheap as hell and holds up really well

My truck is rattle canned "hot rod satin black".. That's not really the color, but from a distance it looks like it could be a show paint.

Cheap paint job and easy repair!

Go to Lowes and buy a gallon or so of rustoleum. It is about 25-30 buck a gallon. This it out with acetone and spray like regular auto paint. It does not look as good as a body shot, but it looks pretty good.:icon_thumby:

If you have the option to use a compressor, go for 1 stage paint or other name is enamel paint. It is only one stage and very simple to use. it has its own shine with out having to clear it. just get you a cheap hvlp spray gun off ebay and a gallon of enamel and go to town on it. good luck

There are plenty of cheap DIY routes to go, the paint options listed above are pretty solid choices, but it's always worth mentioning that prep time is the most important factor.

So good luck. :icon_thumby:

Yes im goin to be spraying with my harbert freight cheap o' gun. I have been lookin at single stage(my s10 is single stage looks good) but I want to be able to touch this up if I run it again a tree or just genral abuse. So Im still leaning towards the tractor paint. So any body got some pics of there cheap paint jobs?

sem trim paint is pretty easy to work w/..

If your going to spray it with Rustoleum or any other rust paint like that (as long as it is an Alyde Enamel) I would suggest going to whatever local auto body supplier that sells RM products and get some 'Limco1' hardener and put about a cap full per pt. into it just before spraying it. That will keep more of a shine on it.

Or if you are willing to pay just a little more, that same auto body supplier can sell you what they call 'Limco Quik mix' for not that much more than $50/gal. The colors are limited but so are the paint you get from Tractor Supply.

Here is a bit of a break down of the different Limcos;
Limco 1, Alyde Enamel (cheapest but will dull out after about 6mths)
Limco 2, Acrylic Enamel (middle of the road will keep a good shine if waxed)
Limco 3, Urathane Enamel (best of the 'cheap' paints will keep a good shine for years without wax)

Of course you will have to buy the proper hardener and reducer as well for those.

So now im goin more towards the single stage paint (more colors). and Kinda want to do some air brush work on this thing. lol Why is it all the time i start wanting something simple an easy and ends up in something hard.

It does not look as good as a body shot

Not many things do it it's a nice looking body.:icon_thumby::icon_cheers:

I don't know much about paint. I can tell you that many have done a nice and cheap rustoleum paint job. From what I've read it holds up well, and is easy to repair. Some people on here have done it, and many more outside of TRS. Do a google search for Rustoleum paint job for more info.
