I have very little money but I was working on my 87 4x4 2.9L at my uncles shop yesterday and an older guy asked what I was up to,just being nice. I told him and he said he has a 88 4 cyl that he'd sell for scrap price. He was gonna have it hauled off. Im pretty sure its a 2 wheel drive but he said the body is decent, much better than the one I got and he thinks no rust throughs. I know I could use some body parts but I don't know of much else that would interchange. I thought about getting it and using what I need and part the rest out. If it runs good what do 2.3's normally sell for? What's normal "scrape price"? 50-60 bucks? he said the 5 speed is noisy, syncros? in 5th gear. For the price he is asking do you all think it'd be worth it? I could probably get $4-500 out of it whole since it runs and drives, would you guys agree?

Around here (Washington), I think scrap would probably be around $100 for the whole truck.

I would buy it!! You don't have to sell much at ALL to make that money back, and anything more than 125-150 (if you include tax and maybe licensing in there) is pure profit. And profit is good!

I had a '94 explorer I bought for 800 with a bad clutch, put the tranny and rear end in my Ranger, and managed to part out what was left (including my auto from my Ranger) for about $900. So I basically got a free 5spd tranny out of the deal. Only difference is an Explorer has more parts that are useful to people.

I'd get it. I bought an '88 bronco II for $200 as a parts truck and saved nearly three times that amount just with the parts I've used off of it.

Current scrap price is $0.08/lb for complete vehicles.

A 4cyl ranger runs 2800lbs.

so $200-ish
