Well, my charging system light came on on my 96 explorer. Not all that interesting in and of itself. SO I took it to advance auto to get the alternator checked. The battery is fine (it's only a couple months old and checked out ok), BUT their little tester will not go past the batter to check the alternator or the starter (which is fine since I drove it there).

We figure there must be a connection that is not working, since the tester will not move past the battery. Any ideas where to start? I hate electrical gremlins!

try testing the ignition feed wire. With key on engine off, it should be 12 volts. If theres nothing there, then your alternator cant initialize, and wont creat any voltage.
