i took my 89 out tonight, made it a couple hundred yards down the road and noticed my battery light was on below 1500rpm. then i saw my battery gauge... sitting steady at 9v.

great, a dead alt i figure... so i drive it straight home. lights dont seem dim at all... nothing odd is going on aside from the gauge readings. when i got home i parked it and let it idle. popped the hood... nothin unusual there. checked the battery connections, connections on the alt, etc.

shut it off, start it back up. starter cranks right over at full speed and it starts back up. did this a couple times with no issues... the battery doesnt seem drained at all.... yet with the key on and engine off the gauge still read 9v.

then while it was idling i gave it a quick rev, ran it up to ~6k and let off. magically... my batt light went off and the gauge reads ~14v right where it was sitting since i got the truck. now the gauge reads 12v with the key on and engine off, just as it should.

wtf?
