Hey all,

Before I get started, please keep in mind I want to keep the vehicle emissions legal. But entertain this thought....

It would be nice to remove my charcoal canister to put in my onboard air tank and a rear winch. I understand that the charcoal canister is there to store fuel vapors that evap from the tank. Instead of storing them in the evap canister. Would I be able to route the line to the canister and connect it to the line out the canister and then remove it all together? I would still leave the valves and solenoids so it can duty cycle whenever it wants. But what would be the issue with storing the vapors in the lines instead of the charcoal canister.

Cheers!

You will probably get codes for various issues. The reason that the vapor is stored in carbon is to keep it from building pressure in the system. Over-pressure in the system will set codes for venting issues. The fuel cap also has a pressure/vacuum release valve in it, so if the system builds enough pressure it will start venting vapor to atmosphere.

If you must re-route the system it would be better to find a different spot to put the canister, that isn't in your way.

I'd run to the JY and see if you can find one on a Gen2 Escape. It is shaped a little different, and could probably be relocated to somewhere on the underside of the bed.

Adsm08 thank you for your reply.

Any idea on how you could change the solenoid or PCM to relieve the pressure into the throttle body instead of purging? The reason I ask is because I’m already running lean codes because I’m running a snorkel. Maybe that forceful purge would even things out?

They don’t always purge. Engine has to be running optimally and the winds got to be blowing gently from the south east only before noon before they’ll purge.

Lean code shouldn’t have anything to do with your evap canister/valve

That would be pointless, and just cause more problems. At that point you may as well just take the canister out and leave those lines open, because that is what you'd be doing.

Stop trying to find a way to make the system store stuff without its storage device and find a way to put it somewhere else.
