Do I REALLY need to raise the engine to drain the oil or just to remove the pan on my 2001 XLT? It may be leaking

I know it has a drain but Haynes shows the pan being lowered???

...Do you mean 3.0L? I really don't think you will have to raise the engine or remove the pan to change the oil. I know my 3.0L has the plug in the very rear of the pan so I usually lift the front with a jack until the suspension extends. This usually gives a good angle to drain.

are you tryin to change fluid in the engine or tranny its a little unclear because you use the term oil but this is in a tranny forum. if your changin the tranny fluid then yes drop the pan and change the filter while your at it if its the motor oil no just remove the oil drain plug. dont forget to inspect for metal grit in either just to show wear on internals.

Oops, yes this is the tranny forum... Damn the "new Post" impulsive clicking...

It is true, unbolt the pan slowly as this generally makes a big mess.
