Change mechanical fuel pump help

The cap is new as is the plugs and wires. I will check them just to be sure though. The clicking is still a thought nagging at me. I amwondering if what ever is clicking is replaceable.

You were asking about diagrams, and I meant to include this in my last post but forgot...the user name and password are auto

auto

You will find much information on this site, and there were diagrams of all the carbs that Ford used over the last 30 or 40 years...but you will need to go through this to find it...

Just tried the link, and there seems to be a problem with the username or password. Just thought I'd let you know.

Yeah login is a no go. I used to use ebsco in college I remember that I could only login from a school server. is that the case? Do they check your login domain for access?

Well, it looks like they've changed the password on us...dang! That was an excellent site too...I only recently went there a few months ago and found information on my motorcraft 5200 carb that was very helpful...

Edit: The above listed site can be accessed using auto as the password...in case nobody checked out the other references to this link...

i may have figured something out. The fuel control solenoid thing located on the drivers side of the carb (looks like a small can) is ticking when the key is in the run position but it does not tick when i disconnect the electrical plug underneath it.. I have never know solenoids to tick when operating properly. I could use some help from others in finding out if the ticking is normal. I know when I had a starter solenoid going bad it would tick.

So, does anyone know if the solenoid should tick in the run position?
If not how does one replace it and where do i get said replacement. I went to my local u-pull and can't find a similar carb setup anywhere in the yard. Not many cars older than 90's.

have you tried pouring a couple ounces of fuel into the carb and trying it? if the carb is acting up and not getting fuel it should fire after pouring some in it.

Well back to the drawing board. I am going to start over by checking the basics. I tried a great many things and still can not get the thing going. I tried cleaning the ticking solenoid on the carb but to no avail. still clicks and still no starting. I poured a bit of fuel down the carb and still no go. Sounds like spark again but I'm going to check al lthe basics.

This thing is really starting to wear me down. But i just remembered some background. In the weeks before it stopped starting it had been harder to start. You had to pump the gas a few times while cranking to get it to start. Once hot it didn't seem to need to gas pumping. Then 2 weeks ago my roommate (who's truck it is that is driving me nuts) started the truck and it idled rough then as tried to pull out of the drive way it died and never started again. And after replacing the ignition part (plugs, wired, ignition coil, module) and fuel parts (filter, pump) that brings me to where we are today. I need to get this thing back on the road so he can go back to work.

Thanks for any clues

I found the pass word for the above listed site...so you might check that out for those diagrams you wanted...may take you a bit of looking but that site is awsome...

You might take a giant leap of faith and just replace the carb at this point...or take the carb tag to a parts dealer to see if you can get the solenoid or whatever it is that's ticking replaced...but you will need that tag off the carb or they won't be able to find anything for you...at least they need it in Canada...not sure about your area but it might be a good idea to take it along or just write down the information on it so they can cross-reference it for you...

Keep plugging though...it's not usually that difficult unless there is a part that is not doing what it's supposed to do (like the carb or parts thereof)...

can anyone think of other cars with the same carb i maybe able to find in the junkyard?

the problem here is... these carbs, can be hard to find and since ford used so many different carbs on 2.3/2.0 rangers, many were computer controlled, and many were difficult/expensive to rebuild, all of which is what led me to my rebuild, when i replaced my 2.0 with a 2.3, i used an EFI lower intake with a racerwalsh adapter for a holley 2bbl. (simple to build, readily available, no computer!) with these many avantages. good luck i would hate to be hunting a GOOD used carb!

Ditto! I was going to suggest trying this route since you've done everything else short of buying a new vehicle...it would (should) eliminate the carb problems...only downside is getting all the parts together in a timely fashion...

Id hate to go through the process of changing over carb configurations on a truck which isn't mine and that may or may not have a carb problem. I was hoping to find another carb for testing purposes. Unless someone has a better way to test one.

good point! i wouldnt get into all the work you are on the edge of pro-bonno!

Man I just want to get this thing out of my driveway. It's my roommates truck and if he doesn't have wheel she doesn't find a job. I can't take another couch surfer. It's bad enough I work all day then I have to come home and work on his truck. It's sapping my patience.

Any thoughts on a next course of action. I can feel this is getting expensive soon. Did anyone notice the light color connection on top of my ignitiono box. I still have no idea where it goes or what it's for.

feel free to lay a smack down if i am out of line, but... call the cops and tell them someone has abandoned a truck in your driveway and have them dispatch a wrecker! :icon_rofl: then call the cops and tell them there is an intruder in your house... :icon_thumby:

GET RID OF THE PARASITE!
