Hi my name is Danny I swapped my motor on my 1997 for ranger 4.0 efi got it used from a junkyard with a 1 yr warranty. When i got done I could not get it started with the key but it will star by crossing a screwdriver on the relay .So I bought a new relay,a clutch safety switch and also ignition safety switch and it still wont start by the key .My question is should i by a new key ignition ? But i also read it might be a security issue with the new motor I hope someone can help dont have much money to fix and kinda of in a hard spot with vehicles my wife and I are sharing vehicles and have to run in opposite directions and with the kids it is getting rough need help please. very puzzled:

If all this stuff worked before. I doubt there is any issue but a wiring fault. That assumes you did not hitch the battery up backwards. It is probably somewhere in the engine bay. Are there any extra wires or parts, cast the end around . If there is a connector it will be within the a circle made by using the wire end as a radius. Start by making sure the battery connections are tight and work toward the relay you crossed Check the ends, they tend to fray and lose strands. Check if there are any big fuses or fusible links involved. I'm not good on what Ranger's have for fuses to advise you. Except, that with a bit of digging, I found a wiring diagram. I should have saved it but I didn't. Good hunting and good luck. Throwing parts at this isn't the way to go. :D

You must have left something unplugged, or blown a fuse somewhere.

I agree with the above. Check your fuses, check your connections. could be something like a pin got bent or pushed out in one of the plugs in the wiring harness and is not making contact.
