supposedly a guy at my work thats into cars has a guy he knows that does ceramic coating. i baught a set of painted hedman headers for the 4.0 rebuild because it was cheap and my stock exhaust manifolds were shot. im ready to bolt everything up and be done with it all, but this guy at work claims ceramic coating will drastically drop engine compartment temps and benifit the motor and vehicle all around. is this accurate info? even if its a cheap job, would it be worth it? considering there are no other mods for the motor, im not looking to gain performance as much as wondering if its worth waiting and paying some guy to do this...

ceramic coating will not only reduce underhood temps, but it will improve performance (however little) of the headers and make them last much longer. definitely worth having it done.

thats what we refer to as "turd polishing". manifolds suck, i wouldnt put money into them.

it is a fact that they run way cooler, its all werth it, i have done it to all my dirt bikes, and trucks. the dirt bike thing it just looks cool.

well thats different! ceramic helps keep the heat in the exhaust (insulation), which means your turbo will recieve more heat and that means faster spooling. the improvement will be small, but all the little things add up.

then theres also the added benifit of longevity....but most stock manifolds are heavy enough that this isnt usualy a huge problem.

so even if its some random guy doing it out of his basement for cheap, it'd be worth it? if its a substantial temp reduction, im actually pretty excited because those headers are so friggin close to everything!

its not like your going to be able to rest your hands on the headers after you've been running the 1/4 mile...they will still get very, very hot. but they will run considerably cooler than non-coated.

Home style ceramic coaing on the cheap you say? Let's hear more about that.

well i knew it was still going to be hotter than blazes, but im also trying to get a grip on what this is all about. i talked to my friend at work again. this is all second hand, but apparently this is a guy that has an exhaust shop and wants $125 for a typical set of headers and probably a bit more for the Y pipe. still waiting to see if he really exists thougth...
