CB RADIO Hookup

I have a 87 Ford Bronco II and think it's time to hook up a CB RADIO. Anyone on here have expericme doing so? I'm reading conflicting ways on how to do it. I just need something simple to have fun with time to time. Should I hook it up to the fuse box or run it through the firewall and hook it to the battery?

Wherever you decide to hook it up, make sure it's has a fuse to isolate the wiring in case of a short.

I've had a CB in three different BIIs so far...

First one I ran a mag mount antenna on the roof (el cheapo) and a little CB. I put a cigarette lighter plug on the CB and just plugged it in.

Second one I did a fuse tap (auto parts store) and ran a 102" steel whip antenna that I mounted using a mirror mount on the spare tire carrier (top bar near the passenger side end). Stuck a tennis ball on it to keep it from dinging the body. Worked great.

Third one I ran a dedicated wire (I added a fuse panel in the cab) and am running a 102" steel whip off the spare tire carrier. No tennis ball because it's on my choptop! Of course, being that long and on that tall of a rig, I do ping off of low branches, wires and stop lights...

There's a great article on properly wiring accessories in the the tech section. You can run it to the fuse box. I myself want my CB to run without the rig on. So it needs constant power with a inline fuse. To keep your battery free of clutter, you can run it off the starter solenoid which is always hot. That's what I plan to do.
