Cat-Delete!!! accidental, I'm a tard....

The Rowdy Ford 97 2.3liter 5spd 2 wd, regular cab, step-side.
I got sick of my heat-shields rattling today, so I decided to tac-weld the shield/ the welder was a line feed, and wouldn't feed, tried fooling with it, checked wire, bla bla..... screw it I'ma take the shield off.

I used a 4in grinder, got the bottom shield off no prob, started my truck (rattle/rattle/rattle)

Began grinding the top shield off (i could see the weld cracks)..... then that pesky frame wouldn't let me get close enough to finish the job.

Out comes the good O'll Oxy/Acetylene......... things were going great, until I super heated the cat (being carefull not to burn my 02 sensor wires) then the torch back-fired, popped and blew a nifty little hole in the cat.

I finish the job, start the truck (:icon_confused: how is it possible it sounds so bad?) like a screaching, farting Dirt-bike......

So the torch comes out again, I dropped the kitty :annoyed:
then the search begain for a piece of pipe (to get me through until the holiday is over and I can get parts) I found a man that has some exhaust clamps and a welder (just in case) I can use at 9am sharp tomorrow.
I found a piece of pipe of similar diameter and thickness (it's off an old cattle gate) i asked my boss, and torched a piece that was in the best shape (being carefull mind you, not to kill myself, burn the shop down or cause any more carnage)

My check engine light is on, and my truck doesn't even have the dignity of sounding like 2 3cylinders fighting each other as it is a Manual 2.3liter.
I definantly won't be getting used to this.

ouch, best solution would be to get a new one :(


my truck has two cats.... no clue why?? maybe it was just what they did back in 88... anyway, i said the best solution to solve your noise problems and CEL.... i didn't say the cheapest solution! lol
 
I got it tacked up this morning with a stick welder...... just a tad too hot for the exhaust/cattle gate piping.

I found a fellow in town with a wire feed welder...... should do the trick.

Will I get in trouble for saying it actually does pull the hills better now?

If it was clogged at all, then removing it will increase power/mileage etc. BUT in the best interest's of the site, and the environment (not to mention it's LAW) I advise you to replace it as quickly as possible.
 
That's because your truck is OBD-II and that sensor behind the catalytic convertor monitors the catalytic convertors efficiency. If it has no reading, CEL. The best thing to do is buy a cat. They have less expensive ones at summit racing or maybe even try rock auto.com
 
Yeah I knew where the code was coming from lol, that was pretty obvious that the sensor was having trouble reading my exhaust from 16 inches away.

I will get it fixed, I wasn't like trying to brag up hacking my cat off, it was a dumb@$$ move on my part.
Just for now...... the truck has to be driven. My differentials front and back were leaking on my 04 so it is in the shop.


If it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all.
