So while in for alignment the shop broke the caster adjustment bolt on the RH control arm of my 2000 4x4. They are telling me the control arm will have to be replaced. Are these caster screws studs cast into the arm or just a bolt through the arm?

Thanks

If they broke just the bolt then just the bolt needs to be replaced.

If they messed up the threads or somehow managed to damage the 2 piece upper control arm. Then they should replace it for free since they did it.

That should not be two sentences.

Also, maybe yes, maybe no. If they actually made a mistake to damage something, like using an impact gun where it wasn't the best choice of tool, then yes, they should pay to replace the broken part.

If the guy just went to loosen the nut and it broke right away, due to corrosion or some other pre-existing condition, then no, that should be on the OP.

But if the through bolt is what was damaged then the whole arm doesn't need replaced.

Well if it's just the bolt they don't need to replace the arm. They only need to replace the arm if the threads on the arm are damaged beyond repair. They don't need to replace the whole control arm because of a busted adjustment bolt.

Thanks for all the feedback. It is the bolt that faces the front of the vehicle vs the studs that face the side. I think it was froze up with rust and broke when the guy wrenched on it. Why they want to replace the entire assembly is beyond me. Tis why I asked. I am assuming you knock what's left of the old bolt out with a punch and hammer.

If your vehicles down and you need it right away then Pay to have them replace it. They should replace the uca with a one piece design like the drivers side. Ford put out a tsb update that replaces the two piece with a one piece years ago. It should be cheaper than the two piece.

Vehicle is not down and you are correct, Ford says one piece is all that is available now. Anybody know where to find an adjustment bolt?

Thanks
