Has anyone used the Carter mechanical fuel pump on their carbed V8 conversion? I looked for one for the 70-73 van (upside down) but haven't been able to find an original equipment pump or even a pic of it (yet). There seem to be some pumps that are very low profile made by Jegs (part no. 15955), Holley(12-289-11), and Edelbrock(1725), but none by Carter. So.. has anyone used a mechanical pump that cleared the steering box.. and if so, which brand did you use.

Yes, someone on here does, I forget who at the moment...

i used one, i even kept the side of the box with the part number on it. It says master on it so i guess that's the brand. The number is 6471.

Would you by chance have a pic of the pump.. or could you describe it? Is it upside down? How well did it clear the steering box? Any frame trimming? A pm would be fine.
Thanks again

i'm checking to see if i have a picture of it. It kinda looks like it's up side down but not like you just take a normal pump and flip it over. I didn't have any problems with the steering box or frame. And i'm running the stock 2.8 mounts with flate plates on top.

I'm using the Advance Adapter plates and mounts... so far so good... except for the headers. They'll take some finessing. I'd like to stay with a mechanical pump and hope what you have will work on mine just as well.

sorry i don't have any pics of it. and the truck is kinda in a hard to get to spot in our shed. I may attempt to get a pic tomorrow.

Thanks again! I went to ebay and checked some pumps. There is a place less than an hour away that is selling out it's stock so the owner can retire (great deals). I'll find out soon if he has the part number you gave me and, if so, I'll be in business.

Scratch that.. I found an electric fuel pump putting out 6-9 psi made by Airtex Master thru Autozone for $42.00 with a 1 year warranty. No return line needed. Thanks again blue83ranger!
