I have a stock carburetor in my truck - 88 Ranger 2WD 2.0 liter

My truck has a cold start problem. Do you think it is likely that the carburetor is the culprit? A mechanic suggested this was the issue and that I should can the stock carburetor and pick up a Weber. Of course that's 500$ plus 150-200$ labor so of course it would be good for him.

What do you have to say?

THanks :icon_confused:

The stock carbs. are very good. It could be the problem, try to either rebuild it or find someone who knows how to set one up....correctly.

Aside from the carburetor perferences my engine runs like a champ except when starting.

It requires a foot on the pedal to keep gas going until the temperature guage hits the first white bar. Then you can take your foot off the pedal. I will consider having my step brother look at the carburetor but he is 1000 miles away.

They are basic, easy to rebuild and run in all conditions and all angles. What more do you want?

Buy a rebuild kit and do it yourself. It only takes about an hour. Use a lot of carb cleaner. Set the needle valves back to factory settings and check that the choke is working. Very simple very easy.

Webber carbs are nice but expensive and the performance that your going to pick up on a 2.0 isn't really worth it. $650 carb on a $400 engine isn't worth it unless it's a truly mint truck.
