I have a 1988 ranger with 2.3lt. The carb is a aisan 2bbl problem is I cant find a carb kit with the proper gaskets in it. I was on a carb website that showed pics of the gaskets in the kits. The 88-89 ford kit was way off the closet match to my gaskets were a 88-89 Toyota 4cl application but still had slight differances. Wonder if someone has put a different application kit into it and by chance it worked. The motocraft sticker is still on my carb and is e77e-9510-aa. Also wondering what 2bbl carbs will fit on my intake it has rectangle mounting pad with 4 studs. Would like to adapter plate it and run weber but price for kit is unjustified.

Did you contact your Ford dealer? Go to a parts place?

Motor craft 2150 for a replacement carb?

carb issue

I haven't contacted dealer yet as you probly know once you open a carb kit you own it. Its also next to impossible to try to match up the gaskets through the box bag. I guess ford dealer might be able to bring up a exploded view of gaskets in kit might be worth a try. Still interested in what carbs will bolt on to my intake as the aisan is classed as a smog carb and has vacuum ports every where more complicated then I need. Emission test is not needed for my truck as chassis is 86 with 88 engine over 20yrs old. Will have to check on the motocraft 2150 not the first time I've seen it mentioned. Thanks for the replies.

Did contact my friend at carquest who also rebuilds carbs on the side and hes stumped aswell.

Last time I was into a parts shop for a carb they told me that the tag on the carb is needed for any parts. Usually there is a brass or aluminum tag on the front of the carb with numbers and letters on it indicating the carb type. If you don't have that then you won't get any parts for it.

However, having said that, I had the same carb when I first got my truck and it was not working properly...mostly due to someone removing most of the vacuum lines. Ford found me a few diagrams and I tried to reconnect all the lines that I could find and salvage (at the time there were a few in the junkyards with similar lines missing).

After putting up with it for about a year I finally found a Motorcraft 5200 from a 1978 Mustang II complete with intake. I swapped that on since it was a direct bolt on and have been using that carb with very few problems (OK, there have been issues with floats, jets, and getting a proper seal).

You may have to replace the intake also to upgrade to the 2150 or other carb or buy an adapter.

There have been a few guys on here posting in the 2.3 forum that have done this with good results so you might want to search for their posts...search on replaced carb or carb upgrade and you should find stuff from Gungfudan and a few others.

Happy hunting...if you can't find it let me know and I will give it a shot to search it for you.
