carbed

While Big Jim may be astounded I'm disappointed.

I don't know why people keep asking this one.

No the parts don't exsist., unless you want to make them yourself.

And even then many wil tell you you're nuts for considering doing so...

This question comes up so many times I'm tempted to find an old 4 liter and see if I can make the parts necessary.

This has to be the third time in the past month... why oh why are people so scared of EFI? I program computers for a living... they are not that damn complicated... I mean for real the computer on your truck will even tell you what is causing your truck to run funny... I swear, if people would take a few mins to find out why their truck was throwing a trouble code, and replace the correct parts (ie. just because the OBDII scanners says something about EGR doesnt mean you replace the EGR valve) and quit needlessly wasting money replacing parts that are not bad, and then bitching about how much fuel injection sucks... I would be happy.....

^efi sucks!:D

ok i always see threats with a q and then people say not posible and cant happen....but nobody explans why. he asked where can he get them...then tell him if you know what he would need to get/ or make and what would need to be changed.

and realy i dont see y he wont be able to do so. yes there would be alot to mod but y not? really?
anything is posible

Okay, first off, I never made any threats, and I never said its not possible. It is entirely possible, but no one makes parts to bolt it on. If you would like to carb a 4.0 a good place to start would be to make an intake monifold, if you decide that the amout of time/money/effort of doing that is worth it, then come back and we'll talk more.

You could make a carbed 4.0, but you probably don't really want to, why? Because, carbed engines are generaly harder to tune, and keep tuned. Are les efficient (read: less power, less fuel mileage) why, because to run a carb safely you have to run them pig-rich to avoid all kinds of nasty, sudden-lean, engine destroying conditions, and overall fuel starvation to one or more cylinders.

Now, don't get me wrong, I love carbs; but, they have their place, and on-top of a perfectly good fuel injected engin, is not one of them. So sure, you can put a carb on a 4.0 with a lot of work, but you are not gaining anything by doing so. So... i guess the real question is with so much to do, and so little (nothing) to gain, why, really?

Also, to the OP, I don't mean to bash your idea, but I just can't see any good reason for wanting to do this modification.

Alright, I have some info, and I come armed with links!

First off, i apologize, it apears that I lied, sorry. There is a carb conversion manifold for the 4.0 you can find it here. It is only the monifold, and from the looks of it, it would make power really high, but it is a start. :icon_thumby:

Next, and please understand that I am not trying to be a dick, I'm really just trying to be helpful, but I did a quick search of "4.0 + carb" and came up with...

One

Two

Three

Four

threads, where this has been discussed in the past... I'll leave them to you to read...

PS to a mod... maybe this should be stickied in the 4.0 forum because it does seem to be a common question...

Displaying patience that frankly I don't think this topic deserves

1)There is only ONE "correct" ammount of fuel for an engine.

2)as a theoretical abstract lean = power, PRESUMING you can
avoid "lean ping" or melting something

3)With a carb the general rule is "pig rich" compared to most EFI systems.

4)With a carb "tuned" on saturday doesn't mean or even imply that you
can start the phucker sunday morning or that if you can start it that it'll
drive "right".

EFI makes you spoiled from the fact that once it's "right" it tends to
stay that way... sometimes for years.

The part everyone dislikes is learning how EFI works.

carbs are never a problem as long as you stay away from Holley with the blowout valve and quadrajunks.
