a little back story I got into a fender bender with my 1983 Mustang and ended up selling it to my dad to by my ranger. My cousins F-150 died and my dad is going to take the 5.0 out of the F150 and drop it in the mustang. The mustang has a 3.8L v6 that's solid and runs great, my question is.

How hard of a swap would this be? I would like to ditch the EFI and keep the carb? Can I legally do this I live in the chicago area, what would I do about emissions?

The Ranger is a 1997 with a i4

I don't think you can, especially emissions wise. You would need an engine that is a 97 or newer for one, A carb would increase emissions because it is not as efficient, plus I think most places with emissions will fail you for not having the same engine as the vin, but if you got another ranger engine like a 4.0 or something they wouldn't care as much.

So no I don't think you could do this... Maybe with a 3.8L from a newer stang 97+. but thats about it.
