I know that there were never any carbed 3.0s but if i made and experimented with the design of a carbed intake would the engine run? If so what size carb would work a low cfm four barrel or two barrel?

you whould also need a standalone distributorless ignition system also, the 3.0 is a poor choice for that, IIRC, the 3.0 was distributorless except for mabey early ones

Most of the aerostars had 3.0s with distributors but they were tfi so there was no built in advance and retard. Any of the two or four barrel carbs discussed on this site for use with the 2.8 would be close enough. Would it run? yes, but it would make even less power than they usually do (hard to imagine).

oh yea, 94 and older 3.0s had dissys, but like martin said, they used that TFI setup, it will run at 10tdc or what ever they use, but power will suck and so will economy... mabey find someway to fit in a duraspark setup...

just curious on why you running a 3.slow with a carb? your sig says yur trucks got a 302, only thing i can think of someone carbing a 3L for is standalone in something like a generator, boat motor, go-kart...

yea cody93 my truck does have a 302 and i have the 3L just sittin around and was gonna put it in or on somethig to play on. What would i have to do to run the efi and all that?

well, first, what year and what trans did it came with? its not TOO hard to get an efi engine to run stand alone, just need the ecm, fuel pumps, sensors etc. the one big problem with running carb on a 3.0 is not running carb, but ignition, if you got a 94 and older 3l, then it MAY be possible get a duraspark setup by merging to distributors together, altho it will run with stock dissy and no computer, you wont have timing advance...

Its a 92 3L with a 5 speed. If itsnot gonna be a big pain ill run efi. That will be pretty bada$$ on some kind of small frame or something. I was thinking something like a golf cart and drag race it.

If you decide to go EFI you might consider using an earlier Aerostar ECU and wiring. They only ran one O2 sensor I believe so less crap to deal with.

My '86 has a 3.0 from an '86 aerostar swapped in. There is also a pic on here somewhere of a holley 4bbl sitting on top of the 3.0 in my '87 Ranger. It was never hooked up, just a joke to see if anyone was paying attention.
