Carb shouldn't even be an option in your mind.

Explorer 5.0 is what you want.

^^^^^^ What he says, especially with that year truck, swap very well documented.

Carb, what is that? They died in the early 80's, leave it there...lol

Todays fuel is so non carburetor friendly. EFI is the only way to go anymore.

358, but 331 is the better route for longevity...

alright, whats the max you can bore ad stoke a 302?

with a stock block the biggest recomended is a 347. you can buy 347 kits just about anywhere they sell performance parts.

Going from a 2.5 to a 5.0 is already a pretty damn good power increase. 331 or 347 is plenty big enough for a 302. I built an old 89 mustang GT back in the day with a 400 hp 306 that beat my buddy's 347. Just depends on how you build it. You don't have to go real big with a 302 setup. Really just depends on how often you want to buy tires. Oh and I would stay with EFI. The wiring may be annoying but once you get it, it's much more of a reliable setup than the carb. I have been both routes.
