Got a 1985 ranger 2.8l v6 and it starts and idles just fine but when you try to drive it the carb chokes out we have tried a carb tune and it’s a brand new carb maybe bad 02 senor???

If it only does it when the engine is cold,, I would suspect the choke needs adjusting.

If it does it all the time, turn the engine off, take the aircleaner off, and then while looking down the carb throat (choke door held open if it's shut) push the throttle open with your hand. You should see two strong streams of gas pour into the engine. If you don't, or they are just puny dribbles, then you have a accelerator pump problem in the carb. That would cause the bad hesitation and trying to stall when you punch the throttle.

correct me if im wrong,
on my 2.8 there was a heat hose (those metal pipe thingy whatever you call it) it goes from the manifold to the carb intake, make sure that hose is secure, ill try to get some pictures if you want a better understanding. but yeah id say take a look at the 02 sensor and check all of your lines. one vaccuum and your truck wont run right the same.
