I've put together a 91 t-bird 302 for my 87 short bed 4x4, carbed and duraspark, m5od-r2 and twin sticked np205. one day it will be a full width sas truck.

one problem I'm running into is what front pulleys and brackets i should be looking for that will clear the inverted econline van fuel pump? just want a alt, and power steering pump, no AC, smog pump, or anything like that, i would like to stay with v-belts. I've tried a 66ish merc comet that had a 260, 2 or 3 different 80ish vans, and 4 or 5 different f150's from about 1974 to 1995. i cant seem to find anything that will work. anyone have any advice using the inverted fuel pump?

also i cant decide if i should just get a jegs v8 converson kit and mod the headers to clear my 4 wheel drive stuff, or get the oil filter adapter and mustang convertible motor mounts and run the rear dump 70's manifolds that i have laying around.

The 60's V-belt setups won't bolt up to the late model heads. Been there - done that. I recommend you go with an electric fuel pump (Mr Gasket 12S, 35 gal/hr)) and use an 86-91 Crown Vic accessory setup (also found on the same years Towncar and Marquis)

That Tbird engine will have a reverse rotation water pump, too. (originally, anyway) So just remember to put the belt between the crank pulley and water pump pulley.

I've successfully just swapped pulleys on a vbelt setup to serpentine, but it would be tricky to run a waterpump off the back of a vbelt.

I hadn't thought about the reverse pump when I first read it this morning, but good catch, it will have a reverse waterpump AND timing cover. V=belts are no option here, neither is the Vic setup, unless he changes everything from the block forward, including the timing cover.

I did change the water pump and timing cover to standard rotation to obtain the fuel pump boss as my factory reverse rotation didnt have any fuel pump mount. i want to keep a mechanical pump because i hate electric fuel pumps on carbed motors.

At work today (ya on the clock i'm building my motor, and going to do the sas there to!) i was screwing around with the brackets and stuff and think i figured out a system. currently have 2 grove crank and water pump pulley, the groves are the same dia top and bottom, the alt is mounted in a ac compressor bracket up high just like a ac pump would be. the bracket is cast iron or steel, and off a 83 or 84 van. then i modded a sliding adjusting thing i had kicking around the shop to fit.

Then on the power steering pump i took a 390 bracket and cut off the upper water pump mount and bolted it on at the lower water pump mount. swung it up where it looked high and out of the way, and cleared the fuel pump underneath. then welded the upper mount back on the bracket. now not being able to run a bolt into the head i took a 1/2x1 strap and drilled two holes. one goes to the bracket and the other into the heads hole closest to the intake manifold.

don't know how its going to work out when the motors up and running, but on the stand it looks good. don't think i'm going to have any problem with the alt, but kinda thinking the ps bracket might have some vibration problems. guess I'll see. got it in my buddies test stand right now so as soon as i wire up a duraspark module going to fire it up and see how a e303 cam sounds!

Right... Sorry, I didn't read clearly... Facepalm.

See if you like the late 70's-early 80's big ford car set up I run in my thread. I use a regular fuel pump, not inverted. Standard rotation water pump.
