Car ramps

I was talking about the long ramps that @don4331 was showing. The one with the Chevy truck on them. It doesn't look like one could get underneath those ramps from the sides. Or maybe just barely can.

It depends on how big you are. If you're a slim man like me with only a bit of a belly, you can get under there. The access doors we use to get into aircraft tanks are only about 10" by 18" ovals. Most of us guys at work can get in and out of them easy enough. A couple bigger guys, both in build and girth, not so much. They found jobs elsewhere on base.

So, barely. Some vehicles sit so low, it’s the only choice you have. Others, like my truck ones, you can use a creeper. If you are on a paved driveway or in the garage. On gravel, you’re still stuck with cardboard to crawl around on.

It’s getting about time to replace mine. They’re getting pretty ratty.
I upgraded from cardboard to foam pit mats. I have two folding ones from Summit Racing that are nice, one thin folding one, and two heavy foam rubber mats. Also got dad a Summit mat so he would stop stealing mine…

But free is better and I've gotten about 15 years of use out of these ones. I'm trying to remember when I got my rolling tool box and top chest. The cardboard is the boxes from them.

I am 5'11' and 130lbs soaking wet. As much as I sometimes wish I had more muscle to move things around, the trade off comes in handy when I need to squeeze in and still be able to turn a wrench, torch a pipe, splice a wire etc....

My house is a double wide on a foundation. Underneath in the crawlspace, the highest point is maybe 28" clearance and low point is probably 8" clearance. A lot of the plumbing/cleanout etc, is on the low end. I was down there fixing a busted copper water pipe thinking there was no way anyone else could fit there. Same with the times I would be doing electrical/hvac up in cramped attics.

I don't get how some of these trade workers can be such big burly fat dudes lol...do they just send a scrawny guy like me in when it comes to attics and crawl spaces?

HF has some good ones for like $14.95

I have 2 sets of the "red metal" Ramps the ones you find at a yard sale or store 15-20 years ago. The new 2020 Ranger I have to turn the steer tires to approx 45 degrees and drive the truck up them at an angle to clear. So my point, as big as new vehicles are be careful with clearance depending on what you are working on. I've tried it a few times...

Are you saying you can't drive your 4x4 new Ranger up a set of car ramps?

I've read a bunch of reviews and I'm thinking the wife's escape should go up them. I will find out in the morning after I pick them up.

I’ve used my share of free cardboard and my last one should still be here somewhere, it was a dense double thick piece that had a waxy/plastic coated side.

But the foam is way, way more comfortable and gets me out of any mud

Yup, can’t be fat unless you have a skinny apprentice. Having a skinny apprentice is how you get fat in the first place, it’s a vicious circle. Lol

My cardboard mats always seem to get covered in fluids and tossed out after a few jobs. Just take appliance boxes out of peoples trash when I need a new one.

If it’s a quick job I tend to go in raw, but I do have a nice MAC creeper ( the wood one with the angled disc wheels so it doesn’t get stuck on crap) I stole from my father who stole it from his brother, who probably stole it from somewhere himself.

Pretty sure last time I tried(with a leveling kit and stock tires) the plastic valance hit so I had to turn. Thinking back I believe I turned to allow access to oil filter actually and didn't like how uncomfortable it felt .

Yes I was remembering wrong, the vehicle that hit was meant girlfriends Tahoe not the ranger..

Well... I sure hope this Escape runs right up them. They open at 8am... so I will soon know.

These do state "17 degree angle low clearance vehicles".

The poly ones should work.

Sometimes a 2x6 or a brick in front of the ramp will make the clearance work.
