alright guys, i have a 98 Ranger 4x4 3.0 Manual w/ electric switch.

I've read as much as i can find on the subject, and still cannot figure out the problem. I few months ago, i pulled out of my driveway and could not put it in 4x4, and the lights flashed. I decided i was gonna fix it but before i got a chance to it started working just fine again after a couple of days. no big deal right. i used it plenty of times since then, but now its doing it again. I started it, tried putting it in 4x4, heard several clicking noises behind the stereo where the ecm is. then the lights flashed six times. it has been doing this for the last week now. on start up the lights will come on then go off like normal, and then after a little they will flash 6 times on intervals for the rest of the ride. this is supoosed to mean that a fuse has gone bad right? well i checked the only 20amp Maxi fuse under the hood in the box, and also every fuse in the box on the drivers side of the dash. no bad fuses. i have also taken off the switching motor and cleaned it and it looked like it was in just fine condition.before pulling out my radio and taking out the Electronic Control Module for the Transfer Case, i read somewhere that if you can still hear it make its little clicking noise, that it is just fine. What the H*** is the problem?. im itching to take her wheeling.

My ranger started doing this exacte same thing i have no clue what it is but i have found a temporary fix for mine. I just take the positive termonal loose from the battery let it sit about five minutes and its good to go. Mine starts that blinking crap every now and then when i lock it in and pull someone or just go hard on it. But reseting the system like that always fixes it. I would really like to fix the problem permenantly though. Try this though and it may work for you to do your wheeling.
