97 ranger 4x4 4.0 ohv v6. k&n intake automatic trans. was squealing bad put in brand new: serpentine belt, belt tensioner assembly, idler pulley, alternator, a/c compressor, sounds a lot better still has intermittent squeak like a series of quick chirps every 2 seconds or so, gets more rapid with acceleration and goes away entirely after driving for a while. have already put in over $500 in parts shouldve been about $800 retail + labor. anyone have any idea what is causing the squeak

i cant tell where the squeak is coming from, also makes a winding up noise while going through 1st gear (ONLY) but it has done this since i bought it 3 years ago probably a problem with the fan

Have you tried removing the belt and running the engine(a short time) to see if the squeak is still there, so not belt related.

A cold fan clutch can make noise, and it would go away when rad(clutch) warmed up.

Might be your cam sync, located on the back side of your motor. Mine started chirping and annoyed the hell out of me, come to find out that was it. Also I'd say a throw out bearing but you have an auto you said right?

also.........a single pulley that is forward or behind the other pulleys will cause a chirp (out-of-line-pulley)

like they said....remove the serpentine belt....run the engine until the gauge shows it's at operating temp to see if the chirp is still there.

I would have gone round it with a stethyscope to isolate the source before I started throwing parts at it.

Don't run it very long with the serpentine belt removed (less than 30 seconds should be plenty of time to hear the chirp). You need the belt for the water pump.
