Hi guys,
I've got a 1999 3.0l FFV manual ranger and just had a new long block put in. replaced all internal parts oil pump timing chain and lifters. Also replaced CPS, balencer, fuel injectors and coil. the old engine would not rev above 3800 without shaking almost like a limiter was cutting in. I bought the truck that way and thought the new motor would fix the problem but not so. Also replaced plugs, wires, and MAF sensor. Used motorcraft for plugs and CPS and am running a Accel coil pack. Believe IAC is good if I pull the plug at idle it almost dies. Going to check fuel PSI next but the truck starts fine and runs ok below 3900. I running out of ideas pretty quick any other thoughts would be great. Oh ya no codes took it to the ford dealer and they didn't find anything (from the computer at least) told me ford had an update to the computer but that didn't help. Also they told me the first balencer I bought was off by 10-15 deg compaired to my old one and had me special order one from orily's. they also had nightmares setting my CPS took them like 2 weeks kept setting a sinc code.

TIA, Dave

Does your speedometer work? I believe there is a limiter when parked in the 3000 range but maybe that's only on an AT. If there was one on a MT computer then I'd guess it'd be looking for the speed signal to disable it since there isn't a transmission range sensor to tell when you weren't in neutral.

Ya speedo works and I think it has a limit of 95 MPH. Good thought, thanks

Did you install the cam syncro right? if its off some but not alot it wont throw a code and the fuel injectors wont be synced to the valves opening.

I didn't set it the shop did but they had a real hard time. I broght it back 2 times because of the SES light. they kept having cam sink error guy spent like 3 days trying to set it up. that might explain my rough idle. I don't know much about setting it up and thought if no code i was good. I'll read about it and how to set it on the forum and try to set it up correctly if that is my problem. thanks for the info.

Dave

buy a cam sync tool from you local auto parts store and you you will need a 5.5mm and a 13mm sockets to set it. it should take you 20-30 min. to do.
