My '86 ranger's clear coat on the hood and roof has peeled off and i was wondering if i could somehow just add a clear coat back over it? and some how blend it in with the existing clear coat? or do i just have to repaint it then clear it? or is there anyway to blend the peeled area to match the rest of the truck? if it matters it's kind of a maroon color. thanks for any info.

Blending clear is a royal PITA. Your best bet would be to re-paint the areas that the clear has peeled off(after you have prep'ed it) and blend the paint in those areas, then re-clear the hood and roof. If you just re-clear the paint will appear to be a different shade.

alright thanks, that's kinda what we were planning on doing but figured to ask about just reclearing it because the paint isn't that bad.
