just finnish the 5.13 gears and front d35 powertracks lockright install.almost done braking it in to 500 miles. just wondering if it will wear out the front locker too much if i leave the hubs locked but not ingaged in 4x4 for just short periods of time like 20 miles highway and side roads.i have felt it racheting in tight corners and it doesnt feel right. i really dont feel like taking that 35 beam out again to fix it since i had to put the pita in myself.:dunno:

Do not drive on the highway or any sort of long periods with the hubs in. Why would you want to leave the hubs in anyways?

if you are just wanting to keep the gears turning, with a locker all you need is one engaged...

It won't hurt the hubs/driveline a bit to leave them locked in. Many people leave them in for months at a time. Why are you so concerned about it?

With a locker up front I wouldn't do it much, unnecessary wear on the locker and I can feel it ratcheting in my rig as well.

In the context of the locker, I agree. It sounded like the other poster was speaking about having the hubs unlocked in general.

You're fine to drive it around with the hubs locked in. There is very little wear.

thanks all. and hey evan have u sold ur rig yet?

umm wouldnt driving around with them in and taking tight turn like lock to lock make the front end bind? since the tires wont rotate at different speeds from the locker

No, without any torque input via the driveshaft (t-case in 2WD), the locker doesn't lock, it just ratchets.

ok i wasnt sure because i had to drive my truck home about a mile the other day with only the front drive shaft and when i turned into my drive way full lock it started to bind up and i have an open diff

Driving with the hubs in with an open diff is one thing. When I was open in the front I never unlocked them. When you look through the paper work the that comes with the locker it says right in it not to drive on pavement with the hubs locked, or damage could occure to the locker. It would be shitty to put all that money into something then mess it up doing something stupid. If you just want the gears going leave one hub locked in. Incase there is the chance it decideds to bind up or lock it doesnt break something.
