i am looking to do a manual tcase swap on my 99 ranger with the 4.0l and I've found a BW1350 at the local bone yard. My 5 speed in my Ranger has a bad 2nd gear sync and I was wondering if I can use the FM146 from the 88 ranger I'm getting the tcase out of, it would be easier to keep the 2 together. need a response quick if possible since I'm headed there in about 5 hours when they open. thanks in advance for any responses.

If it is from a 2.8l or 2.9l then it will bolt to the 4.0l engine.

If not then you will need to locate a 2.8l or 2.9l bell housing for FM146 and swap it.

Your current M5OD-R1 is a better trans, even with bad synchro, but FM146 will work

Here is the reverse swap, remove FM146 and install M5OD: http://www.therangerstation.com/Magazine/January2011/FM146_to_M5OD.shtml

thanks, i decided just to get the bw1350 t case and just deal with the bad sync for now. i kinda figured my current trans is better anyway. I'll just do the trans later on.
