Sorry if this is a dumb question but I want to change the gear ratio in my 92 Ranger with an 8.8. I have the gears from a Explorer 8.8 rearend with the right ratio and limited slip was hoping I could have the whole thing installed in my ranger housing. The only problem I see is the pinion gears, am I right?

Don't over look this in that article:
EVERYTHING in the Ranger 8.8 and Explorer 8.8 is the same size (carrier bearings, pinion bearings/seals, ring gear, pinion, pinion nut, ring gear bolts, top and bottom spider gears) EXCEPT the side spider gears (the Ranger one has 28-splines and the Explorer has 31-splines), and the cross pin.

The gears will work just fine, 8.8 gears are 8.8 gears. However, the carrier will not. Ranger axles are 28 spline, and the Explorers are 31 spline. And no, you can't really swap stuff in the carrier, without basically buying the correct carrier anyways.
