I installed the engine and tranny.. But I used the auto tranny plate and the starter doesn't fit so I cut the plate and I can't cut it enough for the starter to be flush. Can I use and auto tranny starter or will my flywheel screw up

You needed to have the right plate and the right starter, or you will not get it to line up.

sometimes when you get to that point its easier to cut it all out and get a shim and correct starter.

Damn. Engine pulling time. Learning to do it right the first time everyday though. It's well worth the patience and money, because in the end I have to do it anyways and I just end up wasting more time and money! Fun stuff..

I have the manual tranny starter. I was trying to just cut all that stuff out but there's not enough room to get any tool in there that will cut the rest out.

My plan was to cut it all out then use washers to space the starter out

i have always been able to get it out with my die grinder/cutoff and a chisel.

i would pull the trans before the engine unless your truck is set up like mine so its easy to do.

Yeah I just pulled the engine and replaced the plate, nothing was hooked up to the engine yet so I just find it easier to pull the engine.. I like doing above the car work.. Hate being under it! And you gotta unbolt all the other crap.. The t case driveshafts all that good junk. So for me pulling the engine is the easier option

i hate draining everything, takes longer to drain it and not make a mess then pull it with my rig
