Hello everyone,

I had to pull the heads off my 2.9L V6 that was overhauled. I realized I had a cracked head before it was run. I got a new set of heads and gaskets and am putting it back together now.

The head bolts were new for the original overhaul, but of course I had to pull them out. I know they are TTY bolts and should be replaced normally, but is that still true if the motor had not yet been run?

I know they stretch, but I also understand that they stretch more under load while hot. Since they've never been hot, can I get away with re-torquing them? I just hate to spend another $50 if I don't really need to.

No. The stretch happens during the final two degreed turns. Re-use of those bolts will more than likely result in doing the job yet again.
