Yes you can make your factory open a limited slip or locker. You can either buy what is a lunch box locker, that will install in place of your spider gears with no resetting of the diff. Or you can get a limited slip carrier, swap the ring gear over, install and reset the backlash. For all of your effort in swapping disc brakes over, after 95 the explorer was offered with factory disc brakes, unless you are set on the ones you are after. You would have to relocate the spring mounts but you can likely get a limited slip axle easily.

Ok ya so what explorer rear end am I looking for ? I got told limited slip what markings? Do I need and I'm already flipping springs and got told leaf r on bottom already which is good but is the plate in right locating and shock mounts too ?

Any 95-01 explorer will have disc brake, all use the same 8.8. You are correct that is is a spring under axle and I do believe all the mounts will be in the correct location for what you are looking to do. Might have to get a 2nd opinion on that, I can't remember what I had to do for the last one in a ranger, the last one I swapped went into an S10 which everything had to be moved. To identify a limited slip you will have to look for the axle tag hanging on a cover bolt, it will have a L in the middle of the ratio if it is limited slip. This will tell you how to read the tag: http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/Axles.html

Nice ya ill locate the axle umm can I get a different pov from someone too yes I do like the look of cobra but right now ill be happy with just the explorer rear

wow

ya found axle but found 97 :icon_idea:5.0 explorer for triple the price of axle thou might have a picker sitting right next to the ranger in driveway tough decisions :icon_confused: right now running driving explorer just not street legal way to go craiglist f the pick and pull have my own pick in pull for a month lol

Yeah, just buy the Explorer and take everything out of it. Engine, trans, computer, rear end, just make it beast.

I like the Spartan lockers. Essentially the new replacement for the old Tru-Trac. Better stronger... Cheaper (sort of depending on application and value of a dollar)

alright people I got new leaf springs the flip kit and c notch and explorer rearend to put in all in a evening hope it goes well
