the heater control box from an 88 Ranger to a 92 Ranger dash?

I noticed the fan control on the 92 was non functional and I am swapping the dash into my 88...my heater controls work fine and the fan control works fine, but the space seemed a bit small to put those controls into the 92 dash...I haven't actually had time to take anything apart yet and want to make sure the blower fan works...

Winter is coming...I was hoping I could do this because finding a Gen II dash is almost impossible...once I delete the A/C I won't need that push button for A/C anyway, but the fan does not come on with the way it is now...someone had actually wrapped electrical tape around the fan control for some reason...maybe the knob is just not knobbing the way it should and needed a bit of support....:icon_rofl:

Ug, it's too bad Canadia is so far away. I could probably have just rewire the 92 harness to the 88 dash in about a day.

Electrically its very simple. The pins in the connector and the wire colors are the same. It's just the shape of the plug that is different.

I was thinking of that when you mentioned it the first time...but I will be honest...the only and main thing I really dislike about the 1st gen dash is the fact that if you want to clear your side windows and windshield at the same time you cannot do it...have to keep flipping between panel and defrost and that can really be annoying at times because I'm either fogging up the windshield or fogging up the side windows...

Maybe if I wasn't half sweating when I jump in the truck it wouldn't be so bad, but I've yet to go through a winter wondering why Ford designed a truck for Canada like that...then I remembered DG's sig about your "intelligent design" comment and I lolled...

I can exist with the dash the way it is, but I'm thinking I don't really want to complicate this swap any more than I need to...and really want those side window vents...

I was going to take my dash apart and see if I could combine the panel and defrost so that it blows out both the side panel vents and the defrost (I don't really care about the center vents because they actually annoy me) but figured it would greatly reduce the air that the fan moves so it will leave me with both side and windshield more foggy than the switching between does...

I will say the cab is very warm in the winter for the most part...but sometimes in all the wrong places...

You know, the diagrams in the 87 manual for dash and duct disassembly suggest that there were some build with the window defroster vents. I've never seen one myself, but I can believe they are out there. If I ever found one in the right color I'd be all over it.

I've never seen one either...but it would make me much happier if I could. The vents on the 92 are pretty small, but I doubt they need to be any larger. Never ridden in a 2nd gen so I have no idea how well they work.

hmmm....maybe a small tube attached to the defroster spout and run to another small hole drilled in the side of the dash...I can just see me messing that one up...:)
