I'm a little lost here.I get that its stock, but "it is still illegal" as in it won't pass emissions, or something else?

A good spot to look at would be the tech library for the 2.9L
http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/index-engine-fuel.shtml

Also the FAQ at the top of the 2.9L section.

But it depends on what you want for "more power".

I did some mild work with my 2.9 and I'm happy with it pushes my 33s pretty damn good with stock gearing. Ported and polished heads/intake manifold, gasket matched everything, headers back exhaust 2.5in, 17lb injectors, msd wires, msd coil. Nothing too crazy no internal work just opened up what was already there.

its 2 year back taxes and reg is illegal
