I bought an engine from a 1993 Ranger with automatic for my 1993 Ranger with manual transmission, and noticed that the camshaft synchronizer didn't have a sensor on top like my old one. It seems to be a sealed, non-serviceable part. Do I need to change that part or should it work just fine?

Yes you need to put the cam sensor from your old engine onto the new one or the computer will not be happy. The cam sensor was an optional California emissions thing, the engine can technically work fine without it but models that had it also had the computer and wiring for it so they need it.
