The engine and ECU that was in my truck was a 91 H.O. from a T-bird. It had a cracked in the cylinder wall and flooded the engine with water. I picked up another engine and was told it was a 302 H.O. from a mustang. The camshaft in this engine doesn't have much for identifying marks on it. The back of the cam has 97 and three dots stamped on it. The other side of the last journal of the cam has yellow paint on it, and on the shaft just behind the distributor gear it has a series of x's stamped all the way around the shaft and the letters T.E. stamped above it.
The only thing I was able to come up with is that this cam is from a 94 and up 351w and 302 truck motor, p/n F4TZ-6250-A. Also that this cam has twice as much overlap, different timing, lift and duration than the 302 H.O cam.
Does anyone know anymore information on this cam or where I can find the exact specs?
The original cam from my engine had pitting on the lobes from rust and I can't reuse it. I don't want to go any further with the engine build until I know more about this cam. Thanks for any help.

The F4TE cam specs like this: 256/266 degree advertised duration, lift is .422/.445, LSA is 116. Firing order is the same as the HO. The HO cam's specs are 276/266, lift is .445/.445 LSA is 115.5 They're pretty close in specs. The F4TE works great with a carbed motor, I'm running one in my 89 Ranger. Good mileage, smooth powerband from idle to 6000 rpms. It's backed by a 4 speed and 3.73 rear and gets 16-18 mpg on the highway.

Thanks for the help. Just wanted to make sure what it was before I finish this thing.

All the cams that I seen with them X's all the way around the cam either cam out of a Explorer engine or out of a Cobra Mustang. The Explorer cams also had a hollow drive pins in the front of the cams and the Cobra's were solid. There might have been other roller engines that used one of these two cams but I havent come across any of them yet myself.

The Cobra cam was a different grind than the Explorer cam. The Cobra was also used in the 93 T-Bird/Cougar 5.0. The Explorer cam was first used in the 94-97 E & F series 5.0's. Also in the 94-97 351W.

I know that the Ex cam is a diffrent grind then the Cobra's but those are the only two that I have seen with the X's all the way around the cam just behind the dist. drive gear. All the Ex cams that I have pulled have the hallow cam drive pin in them to. Have you seen any other engines from other vehicals with the X's? Do you know why Ford did that on them? Just woundering about it thats all.

:dunno: It's been awhile since I looked at any of the ones I have left. I always checked the lift specs to determine what cam it was. :icon_thumby: Some of the markings Ford used in production are and will be a mystery to anyone who didn't work on the assembly line. :icon_confused::D
