My poor ankles would disagree.

But you did have it bad with whatever happened to you.

Man I'm glad I didn't play in the woods were ever you guys did. But I got ate up with chiggers a few months back. They were horrible. My ankles were just giant scratches. I tried that chiggers digger stuff and clear nail polish. Even rubbed them down in alcohol and thinner trying to get them to stop itching. Fortunately I haven't found to be allergic to any poisonous plants.

In all honesty, I think the thing that saved me was the boots and socks. Otherwise, I would probably have gotten ate up as well.

For me, the best Overlanding gear is the simplest. Rubber totes with the essentials. Personally I sleep in the back of my Bronco II. And I also use a tent. And also a hammock and tarp. Whatever suits the situation. And it all packs up inside a small tote. And in the colder months, I have another tote with a hot tent, a cot and a small woodstove in it.

One of the best decisions I made was to ditch my flimsy rubber totes in favor of nice sealed stackable toolboxes.

Yeah I know a guy who uses those Milwaukee ones. Pricy but solid and they stay stacked

I'm too poor for that lol, I went with rigid.. and only buy them on sale

I use a bit of spray repellant, and I am in it a LOT here. I even have some old squish spray pump Repel, get 40% Deet if you can on any brand you use. I'm in sticks and grass a lot with electric fences and such

What do folks here use for water storage?

I'm looking at a couple options and I really don't want a bladder or even a large tank.

I'm thinking 5 gallons or 20 liters would be enough for 3 or 4 days if I start with say 10 bottles in the cooler.

These are spendy but what else isn't these days. Two of these would sit side by side in one of my RIDGID crates with room for tea kettle and other stuff.

I just buy a couple of 1 gallon jugs at the grocery store. Lot of camp grounds have a spigot I’ll use to refill them if needed. Otherwise I could just pick up another one.

That’s fine if you’re around civilization, but sometimes overlanding is about staying away from civilization for a few days.

No campground... might be 3 days before you come off the trail.
